Why we were not overweight?
I was born in 1962 and had the luck of a full time home-maker mom. So did all my friends. Well almost all.
My mother made 3 or 4 meals a day, and everything was home made. How she made it interesting is still a puzzle, but eating out was not an option. By the time I got to class 7 we pressurized our parents to eat out, and it used to happen – on birthdays / or largely when we went out for something else. About 10 times a year – maybe even that is an exaggeration.
Chocolates? only when somebody gifted it.
It was kept in the fridge – and we were told we could eat one small bit at a time. So one Cadbury slab would be made to last 4-5 days at least. I DO NOT THINK IT WAS ABOUT MONEY ALONE – it was just considered to be the right thing to do. I was in class 7 when one of the friends of my dad bought a Cadbury dairy milk chocolate – and ATE THE WHOLE THING. OMG, that was some learning!!
The fridge was not worth raiding – it had only the raw materials! Eating, overeating was all just home food. Junk? what was that?
We did not have pizzas even when we were in college – DAMMIT it was not available. With a mom at home, biscuits or other savories were rationed – one or two at a time. Not too much cash was available. Cannot imagine in class X that I go out with friends and eat. I had no money to eat out, and friends had lesser!
Ha now. I have a fridge loaded with tons of junk. I do raid the fridge and eat chocolates meant for and kept by my daughter (she has tremendous self control, does not eat them).
My wife is a full time home-maker and makes 3 meals a day AND DOES not touch sugar. No junk whatsoever.
I buy junk, I store it, I eat it. Lol.
What would I say “things have changed”. Actually no. My mom had a strict control!! My wife is just aghast at my eating!!
Damn the fridge, microwave, swiggy, …..they are to be blamed, not me.

I too, 1962 born. I remember having eaten sparingly two types of chocolates nutrine and parry’s wrapped in thin plastic sheets. During high school days myself and another friend managed to eat masala dosa in hotel for Rs 1/- once a while. That was the luxury. Eating ice candies (pink and orange colours) for 10 paisa during summer days. Dramatic changes have happened thus far, both good and bad!.

Please don’t eat junk food specially pizza and mcd etc. In India these so called fast food giants are selling death in form of fast food, what they are serving is illegal in most of the developed world. Do watch this doc for more details:- https://vimeo.com/ondemand/globaljunkfood?autoplay=1
