Retirement Foolishness or Retirement Tragedy?
There are 2 stories…both true. One tragic and one foolishness
The foolish story first. Story of an 83 year old man living with his 78 year old wife in Mumbai. They stay in an old building, have a house on the 2nd floor in a building which does not have a lift.
Son lives in the USA and decides to buy a house in Mumbai. Big plush flat obviously with a lift…etc. Father in his great charitable mood contributes 30% of the cost of the house. Son has to pay an EMI (obviously)..father feels EMI is too huge. Son gives the flat on rent (remember father owns 30% legally too). Father says “let son use the rent to pay the EMI.
Parents continue to live in the old house. Old man says “let him pay off the loan”. Now loan is over. Parents choose to live in old house. Say “let the son earn some rent”.
Amazingly stupid sacrifice. Completely unnecessary. Son in his 40s, does not need the money at all. Son tells me “will never, ever come back to India even if Trump gets a 3rd term”.
Why is the parent making this sacrifice? seriously I do not know.
Another story, really tragic.
Son comes to India and tells parents “why are you living in India”…come with me to the USA. Sells off all the movable and immovable assets.
Leaves them sitting in Mumbai airport. Takes off to US.
Parents living in an old age home in Maharashtra.

The second story has been circulating in social media for many years. I am not sure about the veracity since it’s coming in social media (Social media is full of fake ones).
Since this world has all kinds of people, it can be true.
In my view, the second story in not only about retirement/retired people. It’s about how low any human being (in this case son) can stoop to. It’s about cruelty of one human to another.
In this case, parents can have legal recourse.

The second story has left me dumbfounded… Seriously do we have such kind of people on earth? I can’t believe how low has greedy humans stooped to…

Hi …many ask are there children like this? can they be so ill-hearten? In Jaipur, a couple of months a son who is well to do, threw his mother from roof as mother was in comma for last few months. he did not want to spend time in treatment or caring the old soul. luckily someone anonymous reported and he was caught in surveillance footage. now facing authorities… a cruel but practical lesson for young people who think retirement is some joke.

The second story is true. I have known 2 cases where the mother (can you imagine) was left not at the airport but in hospital. This after she sold the house and gave it to the 4 children. She eventually died in a old age home after getting a paralytic stroke at the treatment meted out to her.
