In gujarati we say, “Jyan lobhiya hoy tyan dhootara bhukhe na mare”
God bless job seekers…!
Rajaram
God bless us all! We need God’s blessings and active support in order to survive with our sanity intact in a cultural context where duping, cheating, coercing, extortion is considered cool and normal!
I thought the MNCs will bring more professionalism and quality into the social context, but it seems we are attracting like minded MNCs to India! MNCs who follow the saying, “when in Rome, be Roman”!
subra
Rajaram, this is OBVIOUSLY not from Hyundai…it is a phishing exercise..OMG i thought it was so obvious that it would not need any explanation!!!
Rajaram
I understand this is not from Hyundai. 🙂 I was just referring to the local arms of many MNCs, who do not seem to have insulated themselves from the overall social context.
subra
Sorry Rajaram! I also keep wondering what the companies themselves can do about it. Bill Gates said once ‘I also keep getting offers from Microsoft for a free laptop…etc’!!
So if MS does not know what to do, what can we lesser mortals do?
i guess if about 100,000 of us report it as spam, Hyundai would be worried….but still not sure what can be done….
natessan
my daughter being a DENTIST, has received many phishing mails, as though looking genuine and also mentioning those offers are sent on behalf of registered companies of NAUKRI.COM. Smelling something wrong, I reported the matter to NAUKRI.COM. There was a reply Naukri.com that they will take all precautions to avoid such incidences.
Siva
Subra,
It is a classic scam related to social engineering. These criminals are highly organized. In most cases, Cyber crime department knows about these details only after victim falls prey to this scam. By the time police starts investigating, criminals close their shops and gone. In India, we get less amount of these scams compared to what WEST are getting.
P.S: If someone falls to prey to these kind of scams, they deserve it for their greediness.
KV
Even if 1,000,000 people report these emails as a scam / spam, by the time any action can be taken against the scamsters, they would have duped a few hundred people, got their money, cleaned it out of the State Bank of India account, and started planning their next scheme.
They count on trapping only the “dumbest of dumb” people, who sadly realise their mistake only after it’s too late.
I have a strong feeling that these scams are possible *only* because of the active connivance of rogue elements in the banking system.
They know how the system works, and for a “fair share” of the loot, they would willingly share that knowledge with the scamsters !
SK
Whenever such a scam takes place, all the “wise” start blaming the victims, the ‘dumb’ people.
Let us not forget that in a country, where job opportunities are hard to come by and very few have been fortunate enough (like born to parents who could afford to pay for college or even school and be able to read ‘Subramoney.com), to acquire such ‘wisdom’ to see through the trick, a large section of population is destined to be ‘dumb’.
But then, aren’t the ‘wise’ (and rich)ones too get duped?…. by the ‘smarter than them’ species like financial advisors, banks financial-institutions, insurance companies, EMI-culture promoting Credit card companies, builders, real-estate brokers, stock-brokers, luxury goods marketers in glittering shops & malls, advertisers, car-companies, five-star hospitals, …. the list is endless.
Everyone is a dumb when encountered by a ‘smarter’ species.
KV
SK, I was not referring to the “dumb” people in the sense of those who are uneducated or less fortunate or poor.
Such people would anyway not have an email account, I suppose 😉
Perhaps a better way to describe the victims would be :
“the dumbest of the dumb among educated, but gullible (or greedy)” people.
I agree with you that desperation (for a job) on the part of victims also plays a part in such scams.
I also agree with you that we the ‘wise’ ones are also dumb enough to get taken in by the ‘smarter’ ones who sell us their toxic products and lifestyle dreams 🙂
But that’s where Subramoney.com does its bit in making us all aware about these things, and shows us the true colours of these organizations and people 🙂
