Death is pre-ordained?
Terror strikes Delhi…and a young lawyer, among others is killed. His uncle says…he had to stand in a queue to go in because he had not taken his coat. Fair enough, the human mind thinks like this.
However his uncle should perhaps accept ‘If he had to die on Thursday afternoon in a New Delhi bomb blast, he would have died anyway’…why was he there at the spot and not his uncle? Just sheer damn fate. Not good luck or bad luck. Just that list contained his name. We should not blame ourselves…
A couple of days back heard about the death of a young student of mine in a mindless accident…really nothing to do…..
If you Google through my blog for ‘Goddess of Death’ you will see a post saying whatever has to happen will happen. There are 2 stories there – which may or may not have happened. It is surely worth reading.
Here are 2 true stories – in both the stories I KNOW THE PERSONS involved.
Three persons were sitting in Oberoi (Trident, Nariman Point) on 26. Nov. 2008. One of them was a lawyer and the other two of them were partners of a firm. Let us call them B and C. B and C were having a dispute about a property and the lawyer was trying to pacify them and trying to buy peace. B and C were partners in many projects and in one project they had a difference of opinion over some not very significant matters.
C got irritated with B and stormed out saying…”I am going home, do not wish to discuss any further’.
A and B decided to continue the meeting – and their drinks and dinner. A convinced B to settle the matter. B agreed. A called C and said…’come back B has agreed – let us toast to this’…
The firing started and the 3 of them were shot dead.
Story No. 2:
Two people were in a meeting at the Trident – when one of them expressed his desire to smoke. HE PULLED THE OTHER GUY (a non smoker) out for a smoke.
As soon as he crossed over ….they heard shots being fired.
Moral: Nobody knows when, how, where we will die.
Live like you will die tomorrow, plan like you will live for a 100 years…..
I hope some smart life insurance agent does not use these stories to sell life insurance (or pension plans)….

Subra Sir, well said…Live like you will die tomorrow, plan like you will live for a 100 years…..we don’t know our final destination…..

Moving one. One of my favourite quote of Ramana I’ve stored in my mobile is: “ Whatever this body is to do and whatever experiences it is to pass through was already when it came into existence. This is not to be taught to all. Even if we tell them, it will only lead to endless discussions.”
Well all I can tell is that this provides some degree of acceptance to the mind which is always against ‘what is’.

@Subra
Death is pre-ordained?
what evidence do we have for that?
subra
Sadly Dr. Khan you are a victim of McCaulay’s education…this obviously belongs to the school of thought:
‘If I cannot see it, I cannot understand it, AND THEREFORE IT DOES NOT EXIST’ very different from ancient Indian education which said..If I cannot see it, what can I DO to raise my LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING so that I can understand it’.
McCaulay wanted to create clerks and soldiers and we are faithfully refusing to challenge this. Read Katho upanishad..C Rajajagopalachari has made it very simple..
Dr Mohammed Ali Khan
Product of McCaulay?
If death is being pre-ordained, then who/what is pre-ordaining it?
What objective evidence do we have to conclude that such an entity exists? Such doubts have been raised in ancient India as well, by Charaka and others, who lived long before McCaulay even existed.
Subra, our heritage is much richer than what is there in the Vedas and Upanishads, sadly we seem to have lost much of it during the foreign invasions.
