Cho Ramaswamy
A couple of days back (Monday 8th to be precise) I was at my parents house. Suddenly my dad switched on Jaya TV – and I watched the ‘Thuglaq’ annual show – which he does for the Pongal festival. Two great speakers – one was Gurumurthy and the other speaker was Cho Ramaswamy himself.
Amazing speakers – you may not agree with all that they said – but undeniably both have been fantastic crusaders against bad governance and corruption.
Both of them spoke absolutely brilliantly, and the examples of Swiss bank account details, the amounts, the names, the reluctance to prosecute were all laid out well. Gurumurthy spoke more at the national level while Cho spoke of how one family (a big one at that) was s….ing up Tamil Nadu.
Personally I have always been anti Congress – there are more ‘leftists’ inside the Congress than outside it – has been my view. However there are good people in Congress and BJP and that has been a pull towards both. Of course as a kid (in school) I remember cycling for Janata party (we had so much hope about a party which would throw out Indira the dictator of 1975!) …however BJP also disappointed in many cases. Most recently in Karnataka. Sad, but true.
However the corruption cases against the Nehru-Indira- R-Sonia clan is just too much for this country…hmm sorry for getting political! He lamented the spinelessness of MMS (come on he was a bureaucrat), Kapil Sibal saying there was no loss to the exchequer (man this sucks any kid on valuation could have valued spectrum).
For people who can understand Tamil…I hope this program is available on Youtube….it is a must watch. I have to thank my Dad for spotting the program!
There have been a lot of ‘socialism’ and ‘capitalism’ debate on this blog – but the most important thing is to go there and vote! I have made all my money because of ‘free markets’. Remember free markets exist only in a free country where all of us can think independently and make our money work. So if you want to make money in the stock market we need to defend people like Cho, magazines like Thuglaq, Tehelka, etc. – like somebody says ‘I will in all my life not agree with what you write, but I will defend YOUR right to say it’.
Democracy survives and thrives because of people like Cho…it is time we went and supported him…even if we do not agree with him.
Long live democracy….!

@prabeesh, AFIK, Google serves ads based on your browsing history 🙂
We all really owe our standard of living to only one institution – Market. Not Govt. Despite the Govt.
BJP & other parties may be rightist in matters of social life but not economic policies. I don’t see them as great choice to run the govt either (Congress though keeps lowering the bar rapidly down everyday).BJP’s economic policies may not have been much different either.
I see a democratic polity & policy making like a quasi-market place for competing ideas like collectivism, socialism vs freedom, choice. Till the day enough Indians demand economic freedom in their lives, no political party will be ready to offer economic freedom.
The last man who inspired indian masses to demand freedom was one Gandhi and we got political freedom as a result. Since then, we have been content & electing our kings & queens every 5 yrs. I don’t see any Gandhi in sight who can inspire people to demand “economic freedom”.

I have been a fan of Cho Ramaswamy ever since I listened to his interview, in English, some years back. My tamilian friend once told me that if I like Cho’s words, I will definitely like Gurumurthy’s as well. I would appreciate any links to articles or videos, which are in english.

not sure how many have watched Mr. Sampat – apart from many of this other movies. He is just super – have seen almost all his dramas and many of his movies. Great comedian…for sure. Not sure whether the government has dared to give him any award.
Worth starting a blog to track what he does…
Alas! my ability to write tamil is zilch. Reading and translating from T to Eng is perhaps possible. Any takers? He has a huge fan following for sure..

Shyam….we also watched this programme. What is disturbing is that how Manmohan singh is keeping quiet, while we all know ( atleast till date ) that he is a very honest perosn. It looks from the avaolable info, that Indians alone have statshed USD 1450 Billions abroad as at 31st march 2006, most of it is stashed in swiss banks. If manmohan is saying that only 20 Indians are involved with around Rs.43 Crs in these accounts, then it is the BIGGEST FRAUD on Indian public. Certainly lots of politicians from across all parties including present congress president are not above suspicion. Will our Supreme Court bring out the detials/ facts of these unaccounted money stashed abroad. Long time back, i had seen a K.Balachander movie, where in a prostitute hears from her den, a public speech by a politician extolling the virtues of chastity, …wryly commenting to a customer with her, that this politician would come to her after the speech !!! This is the quality of our politicians and can we expect Justice from them, esp bringing these multi billion dollars stashed abroad ? The present Govt will collapse if the details are made public !! Why politicians , even most of our industrialists are no different. Our industries have become sick but not the industrialists. I remember an incident , when i was at BIFR hearing in Delhi, when the judge asked the Mg.Dir of the sick company, seeking rehabilitation package from banks, as to where he was staying and pat came the reply that he was staying at a 5Star hotel !!Order was immdly passed by the judge not to extend any further rehabilitation !! We`re still surviving as a democratic country !! Imagine how people like Gandhi, Rajaji, Sardar Patel , Kamaraj would have reacted to this plunder !!

Our assumptions about MMS is wrong. We think he is a visionary, a great man, a super FM, a well educated man. Yes many of this is true. However there is no proof of having a spine. Sadly this is true of any successful bureaucrat. Whether it is Dr. MMS or Dr. Abdul Kalaam.
Somewhere we are missing Hidayatullah (not sure about the spelling) who could not become a president. Or a MC Chagla, or a Sam Manekshaw. These were brave men who stood up to Indira. Today MMS (who raised his hands over his head as a ‘namaste’ or sorry) when he was asked to speak to a corrupt cabinet colleague. Today Radia speaks to u and me but not MMS about who should hold the Telecom mandate.
He is no Narasimha Rao. No wonder N Rao’s funeral was unattended. Sonia would not have liked it. The only brave thing MMS did was to attend N Rao’s funeral.
We cannot also be sure whether he is being blackmailed -‘stay there as a rubber stamp or else’ Ha ha ha…sad but true.
Is he the PM as we think he is? No. He is like the principal of a private school which is owned and run by the trustees. The principal is only the administrative head, not the strategic head.

the speech is available on youtube ! however the video / audio quality is poor.. would appreciate any HD recording links of the same !

Here is what Cho says in one of the videos : “If the head of the country is a good, incorruptible, etc., common man will follow suit. Today MMS is corrupt & so are the common men”. Some of the commenters here including Subra broadly seems to agree that the *head* (top leaders) is rotten & *that* is the problem.
In my opinion this is a wrong *diagnosis*. Any form of government & economic arrangement whose success “depends” on the “right” people running it is doomed to fail.

thank god.finally someone spoke something against chacha MMS.he is made out to be a honest guy.actually he is just an opportunist.moving in the direction where the wind blows.future generations will rate him very poorly -on his integrity to begin with and dogmatic keynesian policies surely

Below is a hilarious email I got, which seems appropriate for this discussion 🙂
New Metric System adopted by India
100 Crore = 1 Yeddi
100 Yeddi = 1 Reddy
100 Reddy = 1 Radia
100 Radia = 1 Kalmadi
100 Kalmadi = 1 Pawar
100 Pawar = 1 Raja
100 Raja = 1 Sonia

always said easy to be MMS very difficult to be Narasimha Rao, who should have been the prime minister in 84 instead of the kid …anyway, here is a nice one on MMS

every system is as good as the people who run it. There are even honest communists (definition of oxymoron). And as long as there is greed there will be corruption. What you see in the present government is the continuation of what the Brits did- only the skin colour has changed. And with madam at the top , not even that!!

today is sat may 14th 2011 , i saw the above only today. very interesting, you need persons like cho, gurumurthy, who speak out. state elections over results are out. “HEADLINES TODAY-ORG POLL” PERHAPS 2 WEEKS BACK PREDICTED AS PER THEIR POST POLL SURVEY SAID DMK WILL WIN. CHO WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO WAS DEFIANT & PLAINLY SAID HE DISAGREES WITH THE POLL & AIADMK WILL WIN ,RIGHT THRU HE MAINTAINED & NOW YOU SEE THE SWEEP,& DISEMINATION OF DMK/CONGRESS COMBINE.NOT TO SAY ALWAYS SOMEONE IS PREDICTING RIGHT,BUT HE GAVE REASONS FOR JAYALALITHAs WIN & ANGER OF PUBLIC AGAINST DMK.SO THANK GOD OUR VOTERS OF T.NADU OUTSMARTED THE 87/88 YR OLD POLITICAL FOX BY TAKING MONEY & FREEBIES ,WHICH THEY RIGHTLY FELT WAS THEIRS & NEATLY VOTED FOR ADMK.
CHO COULD READ THIS CLEARLY & MUCH BETTER THAN ALL SO CALLED TV MEDIA PUNDITS & PSEPHOLOGISTS.
OFCOURSE CNN-IBN-CSDS POLLS PREDICTIONS HEADED BY YOGENDER YADAV WAS MORE CORRECT & SAID ADMK WILL WIN,THOUGH THEY TOO COULD NOT PREDICT THIS KIND OF SUCCESS TMC IN BENGAL & ADMK IN T.NADU.

I have downloaded this video and have watched around 50 times. All the lines spoken by Cho and Gurumurthy are by-heart for me now 🙂 Check out for Cho’s lines ‘If Raja is still not able to escape, he should be punished for his stupidity’
-He means that they have purposely given enough time for the culprit to rub off the evidences.

i also heard the speeches. It is full of lies. While I agree that DMK is corrupt, I do not agree whatever CHO said about JJ. She is as bad as MK/DMK. We have seen her as CM first 2 terms. Cho wants us to test her for the third time. Samacheer kalvi is an example for her administrative capacity. The shifting of Erode Collector, Home Secretary, ex-Police commisiioner, TNEB Chairman all speaks of her fickle mindedness. The stazte has lost 70 school days because of her arrogance. Also by abandoning the new secretariat complex, she has waster public money of Rs.1,000 crores. Earlier she caused a loss of 1000 crores to the nation by withdrawing her support to Vajpayee govt. and forcing fresh parliamentary elections. Such politicians should not be encouraged. Cho has uttered lot of lies in the meeting. I can refute each and every one. But there is no space here. For example he said that he has interacted with amny IAS officers and they all praised her administrative ability. In both her earlier terms she was hated by IAS officers which is a fact. Moreover no IAS officer will talk to Cho, because they will also be dubbed as a crack if they listen to him.
