Sachin Tendulkar quote Time magazine

There have been many quotes about Sachin Tendulkar. Why even Sanjay Manjrekar has quoted about Sachin (that is Sanjay’s greatest claim to fame). However this is one which is great:
“When Sachin Tendulkar travelled to Pakistan to face one of the finest bowling attacks ever assembled in cricket, Michael Schumacher was yet to race a F1 car, Lance Armstrong had never been to the Tour de France, Diego Maradona was still the captain of a world champion Argentina team, Pete Sampras had never won a Grand Slam.

When Tendulkar embarked on a glorious career taming Imran and company, Roger Federer was a name unheard of; Lionel Messi was in his nappies, Usain Bolt was an unknown kid in the Jamaican backwaters. The Berlin Wall was still intact, USSR was one big, big country, Dr Manmohan Singh was yet to “open” the Nehruvian economy.
It seems while Time was having his toll on every individual on the face of this planet, he excused one man. Time stands frozen in front of Sachin Tendulkar. We have had champions, we have had legends, but we have never had a Sachin Tendulkar and we never will.
The other quote is by Barrack Obama “I watch cricket, not because I understand it, but just to see who is the guy who …when he plays…the productivity of my country drops 50%”.
I HAVE MY DOUBTS ABOUT THIS QUOTE BEING A FAKE QUOTE…but it sums up the situation very well. I am also sure that only Indians in the USA must be watching cricket – so this is likely to be fake…but what the hell!
Considering the impact of Sachin on such a varied population, Sanjay Manjrekar is lucky that people still listen to his fantastic comments about Sachin.

So typical of us…. once a man has reached those glorified heights he is beyond and form of criticism. Yes Sachin once again is in pink of form…. hence Manjrekar might look a fool… though his comments were not with out merit when they were made….

Sanjay Manjrekar spoke about 2 things – one was Sachin’s poor track record in the 2nd innings, second Sachin’s inability to play on bouncy wickets. The first part is arguable with data, the second portion sounds like a joke. More importantly amongst all the commentators (Harsha Bhogle not included) he is perhaps the worst strategist. I do not have a high opinion of Sunil Gavaskar – from a strategy point of view – he almost always played ‘Not to lose’ and he was very political but even he is superior to S Manjrekar.
Shashank
Obama never ever said that about Sachin. Sachin is a great player and doesn’t need any favour from a non-cricket playing nation’s head. Stop posting those fake news that endup doing the rounds on silly forums and mobiles!!
Jo
I agree with Shashank, it just seems so unlikely that Barak Obama would have said something like this. Perhaps if it was soccer, football or basketball, but certainly not cricket.
Abhilash
This is the origin of Obama’s quote on Sachin

Joe
yeah…obama did make this comment and this was quoted by the TIME magazine…the productivity of US decreases when he is batting….This is because in addition to the Indians working in the US there are millions of them working for US companies as off shore resources(IT firms),thus directly accounting to the productivity of US.
Anyways, i believe its true…cause the productivity does decrease i remember the indo pak wc match wen he was batting almost all the employees in my comapany(its a US firm’s bangalore office)where watching him bat rather than doing their works..so the productivity does decrease…..:-D

I think little rumors and praise make us very happy. We people dont think that how can a non cricket playing country head can make these type of comments. If he had made these comments I`m sure all these fake praises are to hit the big market of India.

if obama had said then indian media and c0mentator always p0int out that quote while tendulkar is in bating

I’m satisfied Obama DID say that, but the original quote says “5%”, not “50%”.
